There Is No Place Like Disneyland

Posted: April 26, 2017

I guess you could say that for my age, I am a well-traveled individual. I've visited Italy, France, Austria and most of the East Coast, and I've even been on a cross-country road trip. I've lived in Germany, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina and now, Washington. Despite all of the cool places I've traveled, I've never once set foot in California until this past spring break. Not only did I travel to California, I went to Disneyland with Eisenhower's (my school's) performing arts program, specifically with my choir, but also with Eisenhower's band, orchestra, and dance team. We

Space Mountain Will End Its Star Wars Theme Return To Classic Ride

Posted: April 26, 2017

Rockets will no longer be in hyperspace on Space Mountain at Disneyland. The Disneyland Resort announced on its Parks Blog that the "Star Wars"-themed version of the ride would disappear into hyperspace at the end of May, returning to the "classic" Space Mountain. "Hyperspace Mountain," based on the "Star Wars" movies, has been running since November 2015. During the Halloween season, the ride also receives an overlay called "Ghost Galaxy." Space Mountain opened in 1977, and turns 40 at the end of May. The "rockets" (really roller coaster vehicles) hold up to 12 people at a

New Details About Star Wars Land Have Emerged And Minds Will Be Blown

Posted: April 26, 2017

Get to work on those cosplay costumes, fanboys. A newly-released video, blog, and concept art are revealing new details about Disney's upcoming galactic attraction, Star Wars Land. From the looks of it, fans are in for a more epic experience than they ever could have imagined.

The creative team behind the project promise an adventure so authentic that visitors are totally immersed in the world of Star Wars. The 14-acre attractions, set to open at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida in 2019, will be the most ambitious undertaking in the history of Walt Disney Imagineering.

Star Wars Land will be set in a mysterious destination on the Outer Rim at the edge of the Unknown Regions. Visitors will be able to interact with characters, encounter full-size AT-AT Walkers, and fly the Millennium Falcon on a mission. But unlike a standard theme park visit, guests here are not merely spectators.

Star Tours Adds A New Planet

Posted: April 23, 2017

Somewhere in Disneyland Park, right now, or at least very recently, or soon in the future, this exact question is being put to someone who just rode Star Tours by someone who opted to visit another attraction: Where'd ya go? Because, as is the way with the popular motion simulator adventure, a person could visit Hoth or Naboo or Tatooine due to the fantastical fact that "...multiple story combinations set a different course almost every time!" It's this exact up-in-the-air flavor that draws park guests back, again and again, on the thrilling chance that they could ride a different

Disney Getting Good At Recycling Movie Ideas From Disneyland Rides

Posted: April 23, 2017

If Disney CEO Bob Iger ends up running for California governor - as has been rumored - I'm sure that the environment will stand atop his platform, because nobody in the entertainment business recycles more than Disney. Animated movies becoming live action films, movies becoming theme park rides, theme park rides becoming movies. It's the Circle of Life, Hollywood style. Most recently, Disney announced plans to make a movie based on its Jungle Cruise ride at Disneyland, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who last year voiced the demigod Maui in Disney's "Moana." If a Jungle

You Can Bring Your Pet With You To Disneyland But There Is A Catch

Posted: April 21, 2017

Just when we think we've learned everything about our favorite Disney parks, a new fact arises that catches us completely off guard - let's file the fact that Disneyland has its own freakin' pet day care center under this category. Somehow, after many years of visiting the parks and finding other accommodations for our furry (and feathered, and scaly) family members, we had no idea that the Disneyland Kennel Club existed.

The onsite kennel service is a convenient and affordable way for park visitors to ensure that their pets are in good hands while they enjoy a day at Disneyland. At a rate of $20 per pet, the Kennel Club guarantees that your pet is kept safe, watered, and cool; with 52 climate-controlled kennels and a full-time staff of Disney cast members, it's a great alternative to leaving your pet back in a hotel room or home alone.

The kennel is first-come, first-serve (it opens 30 minutes before the

Star Wars Disneyland Expansions Will Not Be Based On The Movie

Posted: April 21, 2017

Disney announced in 2015 that it would be expanding its Disneyland and Disney World amusement parks (in California and Florida, respectively) with Star Wars-themed expansions. At Star Wars Celebration 2017, the company shed some light on these ambitious projects. Here's what we know so far:

The Star Wars parks won't be based on scenes or locations from the movies

While certain elements from the films will be seen and referenced - such as an experience that lets you fly the Millenium Falcon - the overall expansion will not be based on any existing Star Wars lore. Instead, the expansion takes place on a remote outpost where all manner of characters can be seen. This is meant to be a place where galactic heroes, villains, and the everyday folks of the Star Wars universe can gather and go about their business.

But it does take place in a single era - that of the new films

Riding on Toy Story Midway Mania just got easier at Disney California Adventure. Starting today, Fastpass, a way to get an appointed time to jump on an attraction, is available for the interactive shooter ride based on the "Toy Story" movies. Disney officials also confirmed that Fastpass would be available for the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland when it reopens Friday, April 28. The roller coaster has been closed for an extended refurbishment. In addition, the entrance to the queue line for the Bobsleds will now be in front of the Swiss chalet, rather than at the back of the

Hang With Mickey And Friends

Author: Cal Jones
Posted: April 19, 2017

"Mickey's Toontown" is designed cartoonishly. Everything from "Mickey's House" to the post office looks, well, goofy. Opening in 1993, it was inspired by "ToonTown" in the 1988 movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" It was originally planned to be behind "Main Street, USA" and called "Hollywoodland." "Hollywoodland" combined the concept of "Mickey's Birthdayland," which was to be in the Florida park for the Mouse's sixtieth birthday, and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" but instead opened behind "Fantasyland." Mickey and Minnie's respective houses, as well as Goofy's, serve as play areas for small

George Mcginnis Last Imagineer Hired By Walt Disney Dies

Posted: April 9, 2017

George McGinnis, the last Imagineer hired by Walt Disney, has died. He was 87. McGinnis was the show designer on a variety of projects while at Walt Disney Imagineering including Space Mountain at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. McGinnis' senior project while attending the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles was for a high-speed train that caught the eye of Disney. Upon graduating in 1966, he was invited to work at WED Enterprises (the name then of Walt Disney Imagineering, the company that designs Disney theme parks and rides). His first assignment was to

Posted: April 9, 2017

Dwayne Johnson - aka The Rock - will try to capture the magic of Disneyland in a new film based on one of the theme park's iconic rides, Jungle Cruise. The movie has been in pre-production since 2015, and the actor is producing the live-action feature as well as starring in it, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The latest script draft has been penned by Star Trek Beyond's JD Payne and Patrick McKay, and it's slated to begin filming next spring. Jungle Cruise - which appears at various Disney Parks, including Disneyland and Magic Kingdom - was one of the original rides at
