Disneyland re-opened its gates, about an hour after the second official appearance of its new parade, Paint the Night.

The park had closed its front gates to newcomers at about 2:30 p.m. Friday to limit the number of guests during its 24-hour celebration of the theme park's 60th anniversary.

Such closures do occur at times, but usually in the night-time after people get off of work. Further, Disney California Adventure opened for 24 hours as well at 6 a.m. Friday, taking at least some pressure off of Disneyland.

City streets around the Disney parks were clogged late Friday while the southbound 5 freeway was backed up with stop-and-go traffic heading toward the Disneyland area in Anaheim, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.

"We're excited that so many guests chose to visit the Disneyland Resort to celebrate the launch of our 60th Anniversary Diamond Celebration," Disney said in a statement after the closure. "We are working to accommodate all of our guests and ensure a great guest experience, whether they visit Disneyland or Disney California Adventure park."

The parade, an update of the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade, had trundled along Main Street, U.S.A. for the first time in front of the general public earlier in the evening.
