The sounds of New Orleans-inspired jazz will temporarily replace “Fantasmic” on the Rivers of America while the venerable Disneyland nighttime spectacular remains on hiatus throughout the summer following the stunning inferno that engulfed the show’s fire-breathing dragon.

The Jambalaya Jazz band will perform nightly on the Rivers of America starting on Friday, July 21 while Disneyland crews work to repair the 45-foot-tall “Fantasmic” animatronic dragon that burst into flames during a performance of the nighttime spectacular in April.

Disneyland announced in May that alternate summer entertainment would be “coming soon” while “Fantasmic” was on hiatus. The latest Disneyland announcement about the Jambalaya Jazz river residency promises additional entertainment will be “coming soon” to New Orleans Square.

The New Orleans Square musical act that typically provides atmosphere entertainment during the day along the Rivers of America waterfront will move onto a river raft for three shows per night.

Jambalaya Jazz will perform nightly at 7:35 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:05 p.m. aboard a raft on the man-made river encircling Tom Sawyer Island.

The river-bound Jambalaya Jazz performances of high-energy New Orleans tunes and familiar Disney songs are expected to continue through at least Halloween.

Before the fire, “Fantasmic” typically played at 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the Rivers of America along New Orleans Square and the tip of Tom Sawyer Island.

Back in May, Disneyland announced that “Fantasmic” would remain on hiatus through at least Labor Day. Disneyland officials have no further updates on the return of “Fantasmic” at this time.
