Disneyland will start work next week on a new roof for Sleeping Beauty Castle.

The castle's roof apparently was damaged by some of the decorations that Disney installed for its 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration back in 2015. Disney has made some temporary repairs to keep the icon open, but - as any homeowner knows - there comes a time when patches just won't do anymore, and it is time for a replacement.

With the annual "refurbishment season" about to get started at the resort, Disneyland is dropping a reported $300,000 to replace much of the castle's roof. Work starts on Monday and will continue through the spring. The project will force the temporary closure of the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through exhibit, which will close on January 17 and remain down through at least February 10, which is as far out as Disneyland's daily schedule goes at the moment. (Other attractions getting a refurb this winter include the Astro Orbitor and Splash Mountain.)

The work gets started just as Disney kicks off its "Get Your Ears On - A Mickey and Minnie Celebration" event, which starts January 18 with the debut of the new Mickey's Mix Magic nighttime show. Mickey's Soundsational Parade returns with two new floats on January 25.

The big work around the resort, of course, includes the new 6,000-space parking garage going up next to the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure, plus the new 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land north of the Rivers of America, which opens sometime this summer.
