A new dueling piano show will replace the long-running “Laughing Stock Co.” at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland this fall as Disneyland begins adding new entertainment to replace retiring shows.

The dueling piano show will be joined by a strolling magician who will entertain visitors in Frontierland as part of a new slate of live entertainment, Disneyland announced Wednesday, Sept. 18.

The dueling piano players will “challenge one another in a good ol’ fashioned showdown” on the Golden Horseshoe stage, according to the Disney Parks Blog. The pianists will play Old West tunes and take requests from the audience.

The dueling piano show likely won’t debut until late October or early November.

Disneyland posted a casting call notice for improv piano players scheduled for Oct. 8 at Recess Studios in Santa Ana, according to the Disney Auditions website. Rehearsals run from Oct. 11-21.

The versatile pianists must be excellent singers and musicians adept at playing Golden Age musical theater, classical, ragtime and country & western musical styles. Acting, improv and storytelling experience are a plus.

The “Laughing Stock Co.” show featuring wacky Wild West-themed improvisational comedy ended its run at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon on Sept. 15, according to Disneyland officials.

The cancellation of “Laughing Stock Co.” was part of a string of Disney entertainment cutbacks that included the closure of the “Red Car News Boys” show, cutting the Pixarmonic Orchestra band and scaling back the “Tale of the Lion King” show at Disney California Adventure.

The new Frontierland strolling magician will begin demonstrating sleight-of-hand tricks to visitors next week. The magician will wander the streets of Frontierland as well as drop into the Golden Horseshoe and climb aboard the Mark Twain steamboat for impromptu shows.

The Frontierland magician will play a role similar to Farley the Fiddler, a strolling musician who hung up his spurs in May. For decades, Farley entertained generations of dedicated fans with music and laughter as the roping, joking, fiddling cowboy of Frontierland.
