Refurbishing Snow Whites Scary Adventures

Snow White's Scary Adventures

Disneyland officially announced that they are refurbishing one of their classic dark rides next year, Snow White’s Scary Adventures. The Disney Parks blog announced that Disneyland plans to update the ride “with new magic inside and out in 2020.”

Snow White’s Scary Adventures will still have familiar elements when updated, but will implement new effects, story enhancements, and some all-new scenes. The Parks blog gave the example of a new vignette that will show Snow White in a forest setting waking up from her sleep. She’ll reunite with her animal friends with a glistening castle in the distance. This change should bring a happier ending to the ride. Currently it ends with a dark, spooky scene where the Evil Queen/old witch is killed by a bolt of lightning.

Imagineers are going to implement state of the art technology in the revamped ride, including use of LED blacklighting, laser projections, and a new animation system. New music and audio systems are also being added. Finally, the outside of the attraction will receive a refresh with new, fairy tale inspired details to complement the nearby Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Snow White’s Scary Adventures is an original opening day — July 17, 1955 — attraction at Disneyland. It last received an update back in 1983 when Fantasyland was revamped. More recently, nearby dark ride Alice in Wonderland got a refresh in 2014, and Peter Pan’s Flight in 2015. Alice received new projection mapping effects and new figures, as well as an updated exterior. Peter Pan also got some new special effects and new animatronics. This update to Snow White will leave Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride as the only Fantasyland dark without a recent update.

Snow White’s Scary Adventures will remain open through Jan. 6, 2020 before it closes for construction. The OC Register also reported earlier this year that Disneyland plans to refurbish Indiana Jones Adventure in 2020. However, no official dates for that closure have been announced yet.
