A fleet of X-Wings, TIE fighters and Star Destroyers will soon be departing Hyperspace Mountain as the often-extended limited-time run of the Star Wars overlay on the Tomorrowland roller coaster finally comes to an end.

Hyperspace Mountain will close on Jan. 7 to remove the Star Wars overlay from the indoor roller coaster, Disneyland officials said. The classic Space Mountain attraction is expected to return a few days later, officials said.

Hyperspace Mountain returned to Tomorrowland during a May the Fourth celebration in honor of the unofficial Star Wars Day ahead of the May 31 debut of the 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed land.

Disneyland extended the run of Hyperspace Mountain several times as fans lined up to experience the Star Wars overlay on the indoor roller coaster. Hyperspace Mountain often had the longest line in the Anaheim theme park. On Friday afternoon, Hyperspace Mountain had a 70-top minute wait, longer than Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (40 minutes), Indiana Jones Adventure (55 minutes), Haunted Mansion Holiday (55 minutes).

The Star Wars-themed overlay of the Space Mountain indoor roller coaster was first introduced during the 2015 Season of the Force event. Scenes of X-Wings, Starfighters and even the Millennium Falcon flash on the interior walls of Space Mountain as riders race through the dark.
