Bringing down two major Disneyland attractions next door to each other for extended refurbishment will have a ripple effect on the gently flowing bayou waters of the Pirates of the Caribbean and the wait times for the popular New Orleans Square ride.

Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland will be temporarily added to the Disney Genie+ service starting Jan. 22 while nearby attractions undergo refurbishment, according to Disneyland officials.

The addition of the Genie+ front-of-the-line service to Pirates of the Caribbean coincides with the start of construction on Haunted Mansion on Jan. 22 to expand the backstory, reconfigure the queue and add a retail shop.

Next door, the transformation of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected to last until late 2024.

Add to that the continuing refurbishment of the Mark Twain Riverboat through early February and you have a great deal of New Orleans Square and Critter Country sitting behind construction scrims.

Bringing down two major rides for an extended period of time creates a donut hole that will likely put pressure on the entire west side of the park – and especially Pirates of the Caribbean.Fans aren’t happy about the addition of Genie+ to Pirates of the Caribbean.

“They’re going to ruin the best people eating line in the park,” wrote Pref1x on Twitter. “Just another ride that has to be planned instead of walking up and enjoying at any time.”“That line is bad enough without Genie+,” wrote Katchik99 on Twitter. “You’re not going to be able to move in New Orleans Square now.”

Why Pirates? And why now?

Rides with long lines are obvious candidates for the Genie+ line-cutting service. The loss of Genie+ capacity at the Haunted Mansion was likely another factor.

Disneyland does not have any plans to permanently add Pirates of the Caribbean to the Disney Genie+ service, according to Disneyland officials.

Disneyland does not yet have a date to share for when Pirates of the Caribbean will be removed from the Disney Genie+ service, according to Disneyland officials.
