5 years after the Pirate Ship Restaurant opened in Fantasyland, a fully realize lagoon was finally built around the ship called both Skull Rock Cove and Pirates Cove. The shallow turquoise pond was shaped like a lopsided rectangle and covered about a quarter acre.Skull Rock was a 30 ft tall rock like sculpture rising on the north eastern shore.Skull Rock had an open mouth, craggy teeth, large open eye sockets that stared toward the ship, and a wide crack down its forehead.Waterfalls poured from the mouth and from either side of the skull. At night the eyes light up with an unearthly green color.
When Fantasyland underwent its major refurbishment in the 1982, Skull Rock was one of the first to be demolished.
