Have a seat in the open-air Fantasyland Theatre. Take a moment to admire the stage, which represents sacred ceremonial
grounds in a Virginia forest. There is a flash of fire, and the show begins. Instead of just presenting a condensed, live
version of Disney's animated Pocahontas, the show creatively retells the story from the perspective of the storyteller
on the role of her father, Chief Powhatan.
To represent the English settlers, members of the tribe don silver ceremonial masks. But the part of English adventurer
John Smith calls for more than a silver mask. Werowance makes John Smith materialize from a burning campfire.
Throughout the show's half hour, you will be dazzled by talented performers, clever special effects including fire and wind,
and the memorable score and songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

Werowance- Welcome beloved friends, I am Werowance of the Powhatan tribe keeper of Powhatan history and sacred tradition. Welcome to these ceremonial grounds, a sacred gathering place of the spirits. Here we will tell our story, a story of a beautiful spirit, she who dreamed of lasting peace among all people. Let us celebrate the spirit of Pocahontas!
Spirit of the earth, the wind, the water, I call upon you, bring us her spirit. Nuepanamen. A freer spirit never roamed the earth. Pocahontas was the beautiful daughter of great Chief Powhatan, she was often a challenge for her father.

Pocahontas- Father!
Powhatan- Seeing you gives me great joy, we have much to talk about. I wan to hear everything you have been doing.
Pocahontas- Father, for many nights now I've been having a strange dream. I think it is telling me something is about to happen.
Powhatan- Daughter, something exciting is about to happen.
Pocahontas- Really? What is it?
Powhatan- Kocoum has asked to seek your hand in marriage.
Pocahontas- Kocoum?
Powhatan- It will make our hearts soar.
Tribe- Soar!
Pocahontas- But he is so; he's so serious.
Powhatan- Yes, he will make a fine husband.
Pocahontas- But father, I think my dream is pointing me down another path.
Powhatan- But this is the right path for you.
Pocahontas- But why can't I choose my own path?
Powhatan- Pocahontas, you are the daughter of the chief. Someday our people will look to you for wisdom and strength. It is time to take you place among our people, to be steady like the river.
Pocahontas- He doesn't understand. I can't marry Kocoum. There's something out there for me. I just wish I knew what is was. He wants me to be steady like the river, but the river isn't steady at all.

Werowance- Pocahontas and the spirits shared a strong friendship and she often searched them out, for guidance.
Pocahontas- Grandmother Willow? Grandmother Willow?
Grandmother Willow- Is that you Pocahontas?
Pocahontas- Hello Grandmother Willow.
Grandmother Willow- Good morning child, I was hoping you'd visit.
Pocahontas- Grandmother Willow, I need to talk to you.
Grandmother Willow- Go on.
Pocahontas- I can't really explain it. I've been having these strange dreams.
Grandmother Willow- Let's here all about them.
Pocahontas- I think that something is going to happen.
Grandmother Willow- Well, it's about time, something in the wind? Hmmm.
Pocahontas- Maybe.
Grandmother Willow- Perhaps the wind is speaking to you.
Pocahontas- I'm confused Grandmother Willow.
Grandmother Willow- All around you are spirits child. They live in the earth, the water, the sky. If you listen, they will guide you on your path.
Pocahontas- But will I ever find my path?
Grandmother Willow- Hush child.
Pocahontas- But Grandmother Willow.
Grandmother Willow- Listen.
(Wind's voice...hey hey hey yaah)
Grandmother Willow- What is it telling you?
Pocahontas- It's telling me something is coming.... Strange clouds, Grandmother Willow, strange clouds are coming!
Grandmother Willow- Yes, they are almost here.
Pocahontas- But what are they?
Grandmother Willow- They are your dreams my child. They often tell you what lies ahead.
Pocahontas- (singing) I look once more just around the river bend, beyond the shore where the gulls fly free, I don't know what for, what I dream the day might send just around the river bend for me, coming for me........
Strange clouds!

Werowance- The people from the boats has skin that was pale and sickly. Sometimes they even had hair on their faces. The great chief Powhatan was wary of these visitors, they came here looking for something, something they could not find, something they called gold.
Settler- Ahh!
(Settlers sing The Virginia Company)
Werowance- The spirits of the earth and fire, I call upon you! Bring us his spirit! There was one white man who came looking for adventure, but found something else. His name was John Smith!
(John appears)
John- Come on men, we didn't come all this way just to look at it!
(John sings)
John- Such a magnificent country. So much can be done with it. I can almost see the roads and bridges we shall build. Houses for settlers and their families.
Who's there?
(Pocahontas comes outs and runs)
John- No wait!
Pocahontas- Numacha!
John- Wait, it's all right. I'm not going to hurt you. Who are you?
Pocahontas- Pocahontas.
John- Pocahontas, I'm John Smith. Don't be scared, it's just a handshake.
Pocahontas- Nothing is happening.
John- No, I need you hand first. It's how we say hello.
Pocahontas- Hello. (She raises her hand in a circle)
John- Hello.....What's this?
Pocahontas- It's how we say good bye.
John- Ah, good bye. Good bye?! No, wait! (Trips) Ahh, lets stick to hello.
Werowance- Time passed and the bond between them grew strong.
Pocahontas- Come, I want you to meet someone. Grandmother Willow?!
Grandmother Willow- Hello, my child. Hello John Smith.
John- Pocahontas, that tree is talking to me.
Pocahontas- Then talk back!
John- But what do you say to a tree?
Pocahontas- Anything you want.
Grandmother Willow- Don't be scared young man, my bark is worse then my bite.
John- So, you're a tree.
Grandmother Willow- He has a good soul Pocahontas, and he's handsome too.
John- Oh I like her.
Grandmother Willow- Take care of my little princess.
John- Princess. You're a princess? I've never met a princess before.
Pocahontas- You don't have them in London?
John- Oh we got them and Kings and castles, buildings, buildings as tall as trees, but it didn't have what I want.
Pocahontas- And this land does?
John- It has everything I want.
Pocahontas- Yes, those buildings as tall as trees...
John- Yes.
Pocahontas- I'd like to see them.
John- You will! We're going to build them here!
Pocahontas- I don't understand.
John- We'll show your people how to use this land properly. We have improved the life of savages all over the wo...
Pocahontas- Savages!
John- Oh, not that you're a savage. Savage, it's just a word, a word for people who are uncivilized.
Pocahontas- Like me?
John- Well, when I say uncivilized, what I mean is...
Pocahontas- What you mean is, not like you.
(Colors of the Wind)
Pocahontas- Something's happening. I have to go.
John- Wait! When will I see you again?
Pocahontas- Tonight, right here.
Werowance- When the people from the boats didn't find their gold. They thought we were hiding it from them. That made them very angry. Hatred began to poison the hearts of everyone. The warriors of both sides prepared for the on coming storm. Storm of hatred unleashed fury, forcing them all down the same path, the path of war.
Tribe- Savages! Savages!
(music...Savages plays)
Pocahontas- Grandmother Willow, Grandmother Willow. I need to talk to you.
Grandmother Willow- Child, what is happening? I feel the earth trembling in fear.
Pocahontas- My people are preparing for war!
John- Pocahontas! Listen to me. My men are planning to attack.
Pocahontas- So many of our people will be killed. Grandmother Willow, what can we do?
Grandmother Willow- Listen, a stone thrown into a pond makes ripples in the water, but the ripples are small at first and then they grow, but someone has to stop them.
John- Trust me.
Pocahontas- (sings) I don't know what I can do, still I know I've got to try. Eagle help my feet to fly! Mountain help my heart beat great! Spirits of the earth and sky...
John- Please don't let it be to late!
(John enters the battle as Powhatan grabs his daughter out of the way. John is soon captured and is taken to the ledge. A warrior takes a club and begins to get ready to swing at John's head.)
Pocahontas- No! If you kill him, you'll have to kill me too.
Powhatan- Daughter, stand back!
Pocahontas- I won't!
Powhatan- Do as I say!
Pocahontas- He doesn't deserve to die!
Powhatan- Pocahontas!
Pocahontas- Father! I love him!
Look around you, this is where the path of hatred has brought us.
Powhatan- my daughter speaks with the wisdom beyond her years. From this day forward, if there is to be more killing, it will not start with me. Release him!
John- Come with me!
Pocahontas- I can't. My place is with my people. That is the path I chose, though my heart will always be with you. Good-bye.
Werowance- Pocahontas showed us courage and understanding. She taught us that hatred is an evil spirit, and we are all one people when we paint with the colors of the wind.
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers, the heron and the otter are my friends. And we are all connected to each other, in a circle in a hoop that never ends. How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know. And you'll never here the wolf cry to the blue corn moon, for whether we a re white or copper skin. We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains, we need to paint with all the colors of the wind.
