Disneyland To Rebuild New Orleans Square Train Station Damaged By Fire

Disneyland plans to rebuild a train station building in New Orleans Square more than three years after the employee breakroom was severely damaged in an after-hours fire during the busy Christmas holiday season.

Disneyland has been issued a permit by the city of Anaheim to rebuild a New Orleans Square train station building that was damaged by fire, according to Theme Park IQ.

The train station radio house was burned during the 2022 fire and ultimately demolished in 2025 after sitting behind construction scrims and scaffolding for years.

The permit calls for a 357-square-foot building with new mechanical, electrical and plumbing at the New Orleans Square Train Station that will house an employee breakroom and restroom, according to Theme Park IQ.

The new radio house will look similar to the old train station building, according to Disneyland officials.

The updated enhancements will include a new ADA-compliant pathway over the tracks running from the train platform to the cast member break room, according to Disneyland officials.

The fire that broke out at the employee breakroom on Dec. 29, 2022 during Disneyland’s overnight shift was quickly extinguished within 15 minutes by Anaheim and Disneyland fire crews.

The flames damaged the train station radio house building between the New Orleans Square depot and a water tower used to refill the steam engines.

Disneyland erected construction walls and a 20-foot-tall scrim to shield the fire-damaged building from visitors while the Disneyland Railroad continued to take riders on a “Grand Circle Tour” around the park.

The burned building sat untouched for several years until it was torn down in 2025.

The New Orleans Square train depot was based on a movie set built for the 1948 Disney musical “So Dear To My Heart” that combined live action and animation, according to WDW News Today.

The telegraph office at the New Orleans Square train station played a continuous morse code message that replayed Walt Disney’s opening day Disneyland dedication from 1955.
