Disneyland has revoked Lightning Lane privileges for one of Disneyland's most beloved rides.
According to Disneyland officials, Pirates of the Caribbean has returned to standby only and has been removed from the park's lane-skipping Lightning Lane offerings as of July 1.
Disneyland first added the ride to its list of Lightning Lane attractions in January 2024 after losing two rides with line-skipping to renovations. In May 2023, the park shut down Splash Mountain for a retheme that has since been completed, turning the ride into Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which opened in November 2024. In January 2024, Haunted Mansion closed for several months to overhaul its outdoor queue area and add a new retail shop themed as Madame Leota's carriage house, which has also fully reopened, according to the Orange County Register. The Pirates of the Caribbean line, which splits into two lanes, was substantially slowed with the implementation of Lightning Lane.
''Some attractions simply don't need Lightning Lane. High-capacity rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Little Mermaid, Haunted Mansion, and it's a small world historically maintained manageable wait times, Adding Lightning Lane to these attractions has created artificial bottlenecks, with queues spilling out into pathways and wait times skyrocketing unnecessarily.''
Now that both previously closed rides are up and running and the park is removing Pirates from Lightning Lane, the wait time on Pirates' standby queue will likely decrease. In 2023, Disneyland fans ranked Pirates of the Caribbean as their favorite attraction at the park, according to the LA Times.
Parkgoers can purchase Lightning Lane passes starting at $32, giving them access to lanes in 13 attractions at Disneyland and nine lanes for rides at California Adventure.
