Every so-called Disneyland expert has things that they point out to unsuspecting friends and family. Their own little hidden gems that they think no one else knows about…and I’m no exception. These are definitely not secrets, but are some things that the casual visitor might miss.

Here’s my list of hidden gems that you can look for on your next visit to the Disneyland Resort:

Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough

Something unique about the castle at Disneyland Park (other than its size) is that guests can go inside Sleeping Beauty Castle and see a diorama that tells the story of Aurora. From Fantasyland, the entrance is on the right side of the castle, near Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.

Keep in mind that this walkthrough is almost entirely stairs. For those with mobility issues, there is an alternate experience located on the left side of the castle, near the exit to the walkthrough.

Disney Animation

Visit this quiet spot in the Hollywood Land area of Disney California Adventure while you still can. This hidden-but-out-in-the-open building is seldom busy, but features some fun diversions like Turtle Talk With Crush and Animation Academy. It’s also a great place to just relax and get off your feet for a while.

The Hidden Bathrooms of Disneyland

There used to be a long list of hidden or underutilized bathrooms in Disneyland Park, but some no longer exist (RIP Big Thunder Ranch) and some are just so small that there isn’t really any sense pointing them out. I think, however, the “hidden” bathroom near Autopia is still worth talking about. The main Tomorrowland bathroom located at the exit to Space Mountain is not only crowded, but the narrow path leading to it is crowded as well. The secondary bathroom located behind the Winner’s Circle shop is your better option if you’re in the area.

Boudin Bakery

How can you go wrong with free sourdough bread???

Located in the San Fransokyo area of Disney California Adventure is the Boudin Bakery Tour. While the tour itself is a shadow of its former self, the location still offers a free slice or two of fresh sourdough bread. Stop in for a quick (free) snack.

Royal Theatre

Several times a day at the Royal Theatre in Fantasy Faire, thespians Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones host a retelling of one of your favorite Disneyland fairy tales and are joined by some special guests. Check the schedule outside the theatre to see what’s scheduled during your visit, but typically you should be able catch either Tangled or Beauty and the Beast, or maybe both. Fantasy Faire is located in the shadow of Sleeping Beauty Castle and is also the home to Royal Hall, where Disney princesses greet their subjects.
