Tree Falls On Shocked Couple During Sweethearts Nite

A Nevada couple visiting Disneyland were hit by a large tree just off Main Street U.S.A. that snapped and fell on top of them during a “crazy windy” night at the Anaheim theme park, according to social media reports.

“My husband and I were the ones hit,” LeWanda Joseph of Las Vegas wrote on the Disneyland Magic Keyholders Facebook group. “The tree fell directly on top of us.”

A ficus tree fell on Tuesday, Feb. 17 around 11:40 p.m. on the Plaza Inn patio that was unoccupied due to the rain, according to Disneyland officials.

Two Disneyland guests in the area were treated by Disneyland First Aid for minor grazes and released, according to Disneyland officials.

The Disney Fire Department worked with multiple Disneyland teams to clear the tree overnight, according to Disneyland officials.

LeWanda and Mark Joseph were not seriously injured by the tree that fell near the Little Red Wagon corn dog cart between the Plaza Point shop and Plaza Inn restaurant.

“We had just sat down to take photos at the table when the tree snapped and fell,” LeWanda Joseph wrote on Facebook. “We’re okay for now. The medical staff came through ASAP.”

The couple had just sat down at a Lady and the Tramp themed “spaghetti scene” table and chairs for a Sweethearts Nite photo op when the tree snapped.

“That was the one photo we really wanted to do,” Joseph told People magazine. “Like two seconds after my husband sat down, he heard the tree snap. I just felt it and I screamed.”

The shocked couple suffered “soreness” and “a couple of scrapes,” according to People.

Disneyland First Aid is located just a few steps away from where the tree fell next to the Baby Care Center.

“We were walking that way and heard it fall,” Alejandro Javier wrote on Facebook.

Kimberly Barnwell-Joe said in the Facebook group that it was “crazy windy” at Disneyland on Tuesday night.

Falling trees have injured Disneyland visitors in the past.

A 20-foot-tall oak tree that fell in Disneyland’s Frontierland in 2001 near the Golden Horseshoe Revue, injured 20 people, including five children and two park employees, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Park visitors with abrasions and contusions were taken to six Anaheim-area hospitals for treatment.

Five Disneyland visitors suffered minor scrapes and scratches in 2008 when a tree branch fell near the Cafe Orleans restaurant in New Orleans Square, according to the Orange County Register.

Eyewitnesses said the injured visitors were pulled out from underneath the fallen tree.
