Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is closing today, May 21, to make way for a new mission starring the Mandalorian and Grogu
The ride was an opening day attraction for both Disneyland and Disney World's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands
The updated attraction will feature new gameplay elements, including choosing destinations and interacting with Grogu
Batuu's three suns are setting on one of its original attractions.
At Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at both Disneyland and Disney World's Hollywood Studios, guests can experience two highly immersive rides based on a galaxy far, far away. But now, nearly seven years later, one of those attractions is closing to make way for a new mission.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run places guests in the cockpit of the franchise's most iconic ship. Riders are seated in a six-person motion simulator as they go on an interactive smuggling mission. Each guest has one of three jobs pilot, gunner or engineer and how well each rider performs determines the success of the mission.
Located at the center of the land, known as the Black Spire Outpost, the queue for the ride begins outside a life-size model of the Millennium Falcon. Guests then weave through the engine room and mechanic shop of Ohnaka Transport Solutions.
Inside, they come face to face with the smuggling pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his astromech droid R5-P8. During the encounter, Hondo explains the premise of the mission.
On May 21, the original mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will launch for the final time before park officials update the ride with a new storyline featuring the Mandalorian and Grogu.
Beginning May 22, guests can once again get in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, this time accompanied by the mysterious bounty hunter and his youngling companion, commonly referred to as “baby Yoda.”
“Listen up crew, our bounties are two Imperial Officers and a pirate,” the Mandalorian says in a preview clip shared to the Disney Parks' social media page on May 4. “The goal is to capture them and collect any crates they're transporting. Thanks to Hondo's intel, we know they're on Tatooine. Grogu and I will meet you there.”
For the first time ever, guests will be in control of their own destination, leading to potential adventures on Bespin, the city-planet of Coruscant or even the wreckage of the second Death Star near Endor. Another new gameplay addition allows those in the engineer position previously the least thrilling option— to communicate with Grogu.
The updates are scheduled to go live the same day as Lucasfilm's The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters. The movie, based on the popular Disney+ TV series, stars Pedro Pascal in the titular role, alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White and Jonny Coyne.
The updates come three weeks after Disneyland expanded its Galaxy's Edge's timeline to include Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Darth Vader and more characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. The iconic heroes and villains joined familiar faces already found throughout the outpost, including Ahsoka Tano, the Mandalorian, Grogu, R2-D2, Rey and more.
