A 13-year-old boy was not seriously hurt after he got off a moving Disneyland ride and tumbled down its 50-foot waterfall, according to park officials and cellphone video.
The incident took place Sunday at the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ride at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, about 40 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Cellphone video first obtained by TMZ and verified by NBC News shows the boy twist and shoot down the waterfall just behind a ride vehicle filled with parkgoers.
Paul, a park visitor who wanted only his first name used, said he was near the ride when he heard a bystander scream and turned to his grandson to make sure he was OK. Paul said his grandson told him he saw the boy tumble down the ride’s drop “like a rag doll.”
Disneyland officials said a cast member immediately stopped the ride. The boy was taken to a hospital as a precaution and was released, they said.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which regulates, inspects and provides permits for amusement park rides, investigated the incident and “did not find any operational issues,” spokesperson Katherine Wzorek said by email Tuesday.
Disneyland officials said the ride was back up and running Tuesday.
