It's snowing in Southern California — but only on Main Street, U.S.A. Christmas has arrived at the Disneyland, and the resort has pulled out all the stops for the winter season.
During their visit, guests will be greeted by a staggering number of holiday plants this year: over 25,000 poinsettia, cyclamen and flowering plants, Disney said in a press release.
There's also a 60-foot-tall Christmas tree on Disneyland park's main street, featuring 1,800 ornaments and 100 candles. The resort's other park, California Adventure, has its own evergreen offering topping out at 50 feet. It, too, has vintage-inspired ornaments. The true showstopper, though, is Sleeping Beauty's Castle, which gets a special makeover including over 25,000 LED icicle lights.
For those looking for a little taste of the winter season, Disneyland is continuing to make it "snow" for park guests during nighttime hours — and now, will also do so in the Downtown Disney District for the first time. The shopping district snow gets started later this month, on Nov. 24, and will happen every 30 minutes.
For those making an annual pilgrimage — or their first-ever trip — to the park, here's what to know about the new (and usual) Christmas offerings.
An Impressive New Gingerbread House
The annual Disneyland larger-than-life gingerbread house has been created, once again, in the lobby of Disney's Grand California Hotel & Spa.
The house is a replica of the hotel, and is nine feet tall, 12 feet wide, and crafted from 690 pounds of gingerbread. Eagle-eyed Disney fans can look out for 25 "hidden Mickeys" in the pastry house's exterior.
Re-Imagined Rides
As always, It's a Small World and the Haunted Mansion are transformed into special holiday editions of the rides.
The Haunted Mansion, in Disneyland Park, gets winter visits from the characters of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Over in California Adventure, two Cars Land rides also have gotten into the holiday spirit. Luigi's Joy to the Whirl and Mater's Jingle Jamboree feature special Christmas music and theming.
New Outfits for Mickey and Minnie
Mickey, Minnie and friends are hitting the parks in mid-century modern-inspired attire this year, rather than their traditional Christmas red and green ensembles. The looks are complete with festive hats and bows.
Disneyland is a celeb-favorite destination, and has drawn the likes of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, actress Rebel Wilson and iconic actor Dick Van Dyke, just this year.
This comes even amid recently-announced ticket price increases. For example, date-based tickets on more desirable days will see a price increase of between $5 and $15, with the most expensive single-day tickets going for $194. This is an 8.4% increase from Disneyland's previous $179 price tag.
