On May 1, almost all of Critter Country’s attractions closed to make way for refurbishments. On July 8, the Hungry Bear restaurant and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes are also slated to close. Assuming other parts of Critter Country haven’t reopened by then, that means the Pooh Corner and Briar Patch stores, the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride and the reimagined Tiana’s Bayou Adventure flume attraction will be off-limits. Pooh Corner and the Winnie the Pooh ride are not being altered, but the Briar Patch gift shop is being rethemed from “Song of the South” to “The Princess and the Frog” to match the ride.
If you’re worried about crowd congestion on walkways around the Rivers of America, there’s more bad news. The passageway from New Orleans Square to Galaxy’s Edge the side closest to Rise of the Resistance is closing altogether on July 8 due to the Critter Country construction, which will temporarily shutter the Davy Crockett canoe attraction.
For those keeping track, the Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain (soon to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure) and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh are all closed in one corner of the park. Over on Main Street, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is also shuttered for a major technology upgrade. Disneyland has not provided reopening dates for any of the attractions.
There is an approximate timeline for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, however. The Magic Kingdom in Disney World closed its version of Splash Mountain in late January 2023. It’s set to open to all guests on June 28, marking a 17-month process to retheme the ride. Disneyland closed its Splash Mountain in late May 2023, so if its attraction is on the same timeline, it should open sometime in October or November.
Because Fantasmic has restarted its nightly shows on the Rivers of America, construction impacts will make for busy, full walkways. Be sure to leave plenty of time to navigate, listen to cast members’ instructions and don’t try to walk upstream lest you incur the wrath of everyone around you.
