Disneyland guests should get used to temporary walls: It’s going to be a long summer and beyond of renovation and construction at the Disneyland Resort.

With the approval of Disneyland’s 10-year expansion plan, money is pouring into the Anaheim theme park. The first wave of major projects is wrapping up this year, with an entire land closing in Disneyland for renovations and big changes underway at the Downtown Disney shopping district. We took a look at active permits issued to Disneyland by the city of Anaheim for the latest construction updates around the resort.

Downtown Disney

As soon as some construction walls came down, others went up. A new security screening area is now open on the side facing the Disneyland Hotel. The original screening area is now closed, but it may not be for long. A permit issued on June 14 is for a 1,200 square-foot security area with a canopy; before the closure, the security gate was just metal detectors and plastic tables, suggesting this may be a more formal setup.

The walls are down, however, around Taiwanese chain Din Tai Fung. Although an official opening date hasn’t been announced, the structure looks nearly completed and hiring fairs have been held for well over a month to staff up the new location. It’s no doubt on its way to opening sometime soon.

Finally, there’s Parkside Market, a food hall that will feature four new eateries inside. Construction is still underway on the building, so don’t expect that to open this summer.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Critter Country

The entirety of Critter Country will be closed by July 8 to accommodate a number of projects. First and foremost is the conversion of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Across the country, cast member previews have already begun at Magic Kingdom’s version of the ride. Theirs closed in January 2023 and is now up and running. Disneyland closed its Splash Mountain in late May 2023, so if its attraction is on the same timeline, it should open sometime in October or November.

You can peer into the construction in Critter Country by riding the Disneyland railroad through the area. Concrete walkways have been dug up, and a Splash Mountain-themed gift shop is undergoing a refresh to match Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is closed off, but it will reopen with the land. The last bit of Critter Country to close will be the Hungry Bear restaurant, which closes on July 8 for construction in the area. There’s no reopening date, but it would make sense to reopen all of Critter Country at the same time as Tiana’s new attraction.

Haunted Mansion

There’s no indication that the Haunted Mansion will reopen any time soon. From walkways and on the Mark Twain riverboat, guests can peer into the major construction site. The entire front queue area has been ripped up with plenty of work left to be done. When it does reopen, there will be a new gift shop and a different outdoor queue. A permit issued on April 23 indicates plumbing is being rerouted for both sewer and water lines, which explains the deep excavation in the area.

Each year, the Haunted Mansion closes for weeks to put up and take down the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay. When it closed in January, it was still in its holiday overlay format. Removing the entire overlay, only to reinstate it for the holidays, would be a waste of effort, so don't expect the ride to reopen as the classic Haunted Mansion unless construction stretches into February of next year.

Redwood Creek Challenge Trail

It’s not the flashiest attraction in California Adventure, but the best place for little ones to run off some energy is soon reopening. Refurbishment of the outdoor national park-like area is set to finish on July 23.
