Happy birthday to the self-proclaimed “Happiest Place on Earth.” Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955 in Anaheim, California, changing American culture as we knew it with life-sized versions of our favorite animated characters, iconic rides like the Matterhorn and It’s A Small World, and a litany of intriguing conspiracy theories that keep us up at night.
While 2024 marks the theme park’s 69th birthday, they are using the anniversary as an opportunity to pregame the upcoming 70th anniversary in 2025, calling the celebration “Road to the 70th.” The celebration kicks off today, July 17, with cast members hosting backstage photo ops, tours of Walt Disney’s fire station apartment, and baked goods from beloved LA establishment Porto’s Bakery. Plus, from August 5 to September 26, Anaheim residents can nab 1-Day tickets for only $69 each.
Disneyland has previously gone all out for its prior anniversary parties; the 60th (known as the Diamond Celebration) lasted eighteen months and featured a new fireworks show, special parades on Main Street, and ride enhancements. While Disneyland has not released any details on the official 70th anniversary celebration, it’s safe to assume it’ll only be bigger and better than the last one.
