The summer season is unsurprisingly one of the busiest times of year for travel.
With millions of kids out of school and weather conditions far more favorable during the summer months, families are far more inclined to book their next vacations abroad in June, July and August than they are during any other point in the year.
With that in mind, it's no surprise that Disneyland and the various parks that make up its East Coast sister property, Walt Disney World, experience a sudden rise in attendance during the peak weeks of summer.
As thousands of visitors flock to the world-famous amusement park, Disney has made the interesting decision to update its fast lane policies for certain iconic attractions, including the longtime fan-favorite ride, Pirates of the Caribbean, as confirmed by Newsweek.
In the past, Pirates of the Caribbean has been one of the many Disney attractions outfitted with a Lightning Lane since January 2024. As frequent visitors to Disney's parks are sure to know, Lightning Lane acts as a conventional line-hopper pass, which allow travelers to effectively jump ahead of the standby line, cutting attractions' wait times down by a significant margin.
A paid service that replaced Disney+'s Genie+ service, the Lightning Lane has been praised and scorned by those who step foot in Disneyland's property. At the start of this past month, however, Disneyland has removed Pirates of the Caribbean from the list of attractions equipped with a Lightning Lane.
To shed more light on the new park development, Newsweek spoke with Disney blogger Scott Gustin, who said that Pirates of the Caribbean's Lightning Lane had only been in place owing to significant refurbishments of other nearby Disneyland attractions.
''Pirates of the Caribbean was only added as a temporary Lightning Lane option in early 2024 because a bunch of other rides were closed for refurbishments, which meant there were fewer attractions available for Lightning Lane,'' Gustin told the publication.
''Now that those rides have reopened, Disney has taken Lightning Lane off Pirates, just like they said they would,'' the blogger continued.
