Five Things To Do When Lines Are Long

Locals and other regular visitors will deal with the long lines by either staying home or just people watching. Folks that are on a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation don’t have that luxury.

If you’re not interested in purchasing Lightning Lane to help skip some of the longer lines, here are a few ideas for things you can do when the lines are at their longest. If you get Lightning Lane, these are great options to pass the time while you’re waiting for your next Lightning Lane attraction.

Disneyland Railroad

This iconic attraction should be on everyone’s must-do list anyway, so why not experience it when lines elsewhere are at their longest. I would recommend starting your journey at the Main Street station. Not only are there two lines there, so the wait seems a little short, but you will also be able to experience the “grand circle tour.”

The wait here is never more than the length of one presentation, so this is the perfect place to visit when lines are long. Plus, now that there are two different presentations, you’ll want to visit twice.

Currently, you can experience the classic The Disneyland Story, presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln early in the day, then come back later for the new Walt Disney A Magical Life.

During your short wait for either show, check out The Disney Gallery in the lobby. The rotating display is currently celebrating Disneyland’s 70th with items from Walt Disney Imagineering, the Walt Disney Archives, and The Walt Disney Family Museum.

Adventureland Treehouse

This attraction is a walk-through, so there is seldom a crowd or a wait. The treehouse was reimagined a few years ago, so if you’ve only seen it when Tarzan or the Robinsons lived there, it’s time for another visit.

Main Street Cinema

It’s easy to miss, but this small attraction is a great way to spend some time during the busiest of days.

Typically the cinema features six screens each showing a different cartoon shorts, but venue is currently presenting “The Last Verse,” a short film that unveils a new verse to the iconic song, “It’s a Small World.”

Disneyland Monorail

Finally, let’s hop aboard the “highway in the sky” for a ride through Tomorrowland, along Harbor Boulevard, over to the western edge of Downtown Disney, and back. The current fleet of Mark VII monorails depart fairly often and are a relaxing way to get above the crowds.

If you’re willing to wait just a bit longer, sometimes you can even ride up front with the pilot.

Hopefully some of those suggestions will help you as you plan for your trip, but if not, you can always go with my plan. Grab yourself a churro, find a park bench, and take comfort in the knowledge that you are in The Happiest Place on Earth.
