Disneyland marked a major milestone Friday after officials announced the park had welcomed its honorary one billionth guest.
The guest, 8-year-old Andres Robles of Arizona, was visiting the resort with his parents, Alejandra and Jose, to celebrate his birthday.
Disney invited the family to help unveil an updated population sign at the Disneyland train station platform that now reads “Population 1,000,000,000.”
To mark the occasion, Disney provided the Robles family with a VIP tour guide for the day, including special access to Walt Disney’s private apartment above the firehouse and the newly opened Soarin’ Across America attraction.
The milestone comes just weeks before Disneyland’s 71st anniversary on July 17.
The park opened in 1955 on former orange groves in Anaheim, debuting during a live television special that quickly became infamous. Attractions broke down, food and drinks ran short, traffic clogged nearby streets, and guests’ shoes sank into still-soft asphalt, The Associated Press reported.
Several opening-day attractions remain in operation, including the Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan’s Flight and Jungle Cruise.
Over the decades, Disneyland has hosted U.S. presidents, world leaders, and countless celebrities. Some even got their start at the park, such as actor Kevin Costner, who once worked as a Jungle Cruise skipper, and comedian Steve Martin, who learned the basics of performing at a Main Street magic shop, according to AP.
