Dalmatian Celebration Secrets:
On November 18, 1996, Disney's new live action remake of 1961's animated One Hundred and One Dalmatians premiered in New York. To help promote the new movie, Disneyland opened Dalmatian celebration ten days later on Thanksgiving Day, 1996. Disneyland's spot for the spots was adjacent to the prominent Disney Showcase more, which still occupies the corner where Main Stmt stretches northward from Town Square. Various eateries, including the Town Square Café, had previously used the Dalmatian Celebration location. Guests entering Disneyland through the east tunnel couldn't miss the area modeled all Disney's biggest movie of the year. Inside, they found lots of movie-related activities, including sported face-painting and photo opportunities with Cruella De va. The biggest surprise was that, as the nanny announces in the 1961 animated original, "The puppies are here! The puppies are here!. It's true—there were actual puppies on hand in Disneyland for guests to play with. Once the holiday season ended, so did the six-week promotion. The internal rooms became off-limits offices, and the external space changed into a character-greeting area.
