This Dark ride allows guests to step through a movie screen and into a Mickey Mouse cartoon.The attraction is housed within the El CapiTOON Theater where Mickey and Minnie are premiering their newest cartoon short, "Perfect Picnic".However, before even entering the cinema, guests will travel through a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society that will feature costumes and props from all over the toon world.A first major Mickey-themed ride-through attraction at Disneyland park will put you inside the wacky and unpredictable world of a Mickey Mouse cartoon short where anything can happen! Once you step into the cartoon world of Mickey and Minnie, you'll board a train with Goofy as the engineer. Then, one magical moment after the next leads you to a zany, out-of-control adventure filled with surprising twists and turns. With an original story and lovable theme song.
Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway uses state-of-the-art technologies and dazzling visual effects to transform the cartoon world into an incredible and immersive multi-dimensional experience. It also features Chuuby, a little bird created exclusively for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway and destined to fly right into guests' hearts.In addition to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, the attraction is full of iconic Disney characters including Pluto, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck and Pete. Christopher Willis, Emmy Award-winning composer of the "Mickey Mouse" shorts, wrote "Nothing Can Stop Us Now," the attraction's exclusive theme song. Guests are immersed in an all-encompassing environment and have the freedom to look in all directions.
They may see different details depending on which vehicle they ride in and where they're sitting within each vehicle.Projections are used across multi-plane scenic flats and dimensional sets to provide depth of field while still maintaining a cartoon aesthetic. Special painting techniques were used on the attraction's ride vehicles so they appear to be hand-drawn. The attraction features several sound effects created by Disney Legend Jimmy Macdonald. Construction started November 2019. Due to COVID-19 closure Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opening was delayed until 2023
