The Conestoga Wagons were part of the original Frontierland the wooden wagons were replicas of horse drawn vehicles each Disneyland wagon was pulled by at least 2 horses held about a dozen guests and true to the pioneer spirit had Westward Ho or Oregon or bust painted on its canvas top.
From Pasadena Independent, December 18, 1955:You will ride the Conestoga Wagon in Frontierland—one of the most picturesque and vital vehicles in history. It was the Conestoga, not the Covered Wagon, that developed the West. The great wagons were first built in the Conestoga Valley of Pennsylvania, with water tight bottoms that permitted safe crossing of rivers.
This attraction was stopped immediately when one of the horses tripped, tipping the wagon over, fortunately with only minor guest injuries.High overhead, unpredictability of the animals, and a low guest capacity forced the closure of the Conestoga Wagon in 1960.
