The
Indiana Jones Adventure Temple Of The Forbidden Eye History:
Debuting in 1995 Indiana Jones Adventure was the first major new attraction in Adventureland since 1963.Indiana Jones Adventure was the result of a fruitful pairing of Disney and George Lucas.
Plans for the attraction actually began in the mid-1980s back when the second Lucas produced Indiana Jones movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was busy establishing itself as a huge hit in theaters.Various Disney designers took a crack at incorporating elements from the Indiana Jones films into some kind of Disneyland Adventure. Some of the early concept drawings show battered vehicles careening along a cliff above a lava field ravine others included the roller coaster style mine car chase. Nearly all the early plans incorporated the rolling Boulder sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
When Indiana Jones Adventure did finally open it had accumulated the highest price tag for any Disneyland attraction ever. Most estimates are over a hundred million dollars about six times the total cost to build the entire park in the mid-1950s.
Before construction began in 1993 designer's first reshape the adjacent Jungle Cruise river to make room for the three-story temple structure some of it underground and its elaborate queue area stretching a half a mile this is the longest line in Disneyland history. The real achievement however wasn't the construction of the building as much as the engineering of the cars which are the parks most complex.Vehicles created to look like well used jungle Jeeps from 1935 the 16 vehicles dip swerve, shake, tilt, accelerate, and brake all along the 2500 foot track making for a crazy unpredictable ride and somewhat dangerous in its first year the vehicles generated so many minor injuries the designers quickly added several safety modifications.
What's more each vehicle carries its own computer that instigates random bumps fire flashes and other effects to create 160,000 possible variations of the Indy experience.Temple is 2.2 million cubic feet. The Temple Chambers: Chamber of Destiny, Hall of Promise, Tunnel of Torment, Gates of Doom, Cavern of Bubbling Death, Mummy Chamber, Bug Room, Snake Temple, Rat Cave, Dart Corridor, Rolling Boulder finale. Additional Findings:
More than 168,000 square feet of hand-carved surfaces adorn the caverns, with 55 hand-painted murals throughout. More than 2,000 replicated human skulls found within the temple chambers.Wind speed inside the Mummy Chamber rush up to 60 mph. The vehicle displayed in the base camp was the actual vehicle used for the chase scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
More than 600 strobes are used to simulate lightning in the Tunnel of Torment. By the power of Mara's wrath, 60 pounds of rubble can fall inside the temple every 18 seconds.(the rubble effect no longer functions) The exterior temple structure towers four stories above the excavation site. The temple contains 2,129 representations of snakes. The Mara alphabet uses 26 characters and english grammar. No numbers or punctuation yet. The alphabet was designed by Chuck Balleu.
As you walk through the outside preshow area of Indiana Jones in Disneyland, you will find a barrel labeled "FRAGLE CONTENTS". The painters dropped the "I".
In the film room, right after you make the first turn you can look up between the boards on the scaffolding to see a hidden Eeyore (You will need a flash light to see it). This was put here because the Indy ride building was built on the former Eeyore section of the parking lot.
In the room with the Obelisk of Doom the Mara letters are the initials of the Imagineers that worked on the ride.
The letters and numbers on the EMV vehicles are actually the initials of Imagineers and their birthday with the month and the day. The last digits are the number of the vehicles from 1 to 16.
In Indy's office there is a Life magazine with Mickey on the front.
When you first enter the room with Indy's office you look up to the top and see cargo boxes with writing on them. The writing is from the first Indy movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and was on the cargo box holding the ark of the covenant.
On the left side of Indy's office there is writing that says send to Club Obi Wan, this is a night club from the Temple of Doom movie.
In the mummy room on the ride itself, the first skeleton as you enter the room, on your left has a Mickey Mouse hat on that has the name bones.
The "three rooms" you choose from are not three different rooms but only one with facades that move to make it look like they are different. There is one track for the whole ride. But there are five doors in that area of the ride. (four fake, one real.) If you're going through the middle door the two outermost doors are hidden, if you're going through the left door, the two leftmost doors are hidden.
The effect in the room with the large boulder it feels as if the transport is moving backward the transport actually isn't going backwards at all. Rather, the whole room moves toward you. To see this work, if you're sitting on the edge of the car look down to the sides and you'll see where the walls don't meet the floor.

Temple of the forbidden eye, Lost delta region, India. Discovered by Dr. Indiana Jones Circa 1935 - Flood debris. It is theorized that the temple was buried in a flood over 2000 years ago. Much of the temple, however, was built in underground chambers. [in red] Watch out for the crocks. Get some reinforcements up here before a stone falls and kills someone, Indy.

Queue line over the loudspeaker - excerpts of the newsreels.
The remote jungles of India's Lost Delta, its perilous pathways known to ''taunt'' tourists. From all over the world they are flocking here following a strange story of a mysterious temple and gifts from the gods. The story begins one year ago when world famous archaeologist, Indiana Jones, followed a tattered map to an ancient edifice. Strange symbols, puzzling pictographs. Could this be the fabled Temple Of The Forbidden Eye? Jones says, Yes! According to Doctor Jones the temple contains a Chamber Of Destiny where an ancient idol lured visitors with promises of gifts. Eternal youth, earthly riches or visions of the future. But those gifts were bait in a deadly trap - for any who looked
into the eyes of this double dealing deity took a detour to doom. A chilling tale indeed. But not chilling enough to cool off the hot pursuit of thousands of greedy globe trotters. They've heard of Jones' discovery and they're ready for a supernatural shopping spree.
The crème de la crème of the international smart set are wearing khaki this year and the new vacation hot spot is Temple Of The Forbidden Eye. Everyone's agog over this enchanting discovery by famed archaeologist, Indiana Jones. They've heard rumors of rewards to visitors. Unlimited riches, eternal youth or visions of the future. Now just one little hint - the ancient temple idol. Doctor Jones' long time friend, Sallah, warns that if you so much as peek into his eyes the next stop on your itinerary will be the Gates of Doom.
The Temple of the Forbidden Eye continues to beckon visitors from around the globe. They've all heard the tantalizing tales. A matronly movie star made young again, a pauper who became a Rockefeller in these ruins. But a darker tale has surfaced. Many visitors are claiming loved ones have disappeared inside. Could it be they looked into the eyes of the idol?

1. Ah, welcome back. You entered the observatory of the future. In that case I don't even have to tell you that we would like you to stay seated until your transport comes to a complete stop.
