HIGHLIGHTS:
Disneyland Ambassador Christina Schendel toured the U.S. and 15 foreign nations, serving as an official "Visit USA" emissary in conjunction with the U.S. Commerce Department and the U.S. Travel Service. This effort was aimed at encouraging foreign and domestic participation in celebration of America's 200th birthday.
The Park's 150 millionth guest, Elsie Mae 'Houck, of Tulare, Ca., arrived on June 22.
Summer saw the conclusion of Disneyland's bicentennial salute, "America on Parade." During its 15-month run more than 600 performances were enjoyed by over 12 million guests.
Disneyland hosted 75,640 visitors on July 4. The week-end included the largest fireworks display in the Park's history.
More than 150,000 students at the fourth through eighth grade levels took part in Disneyland's new Music Education program, which included visits to four musically educational attractions, as well as a special presentation in the Fantasyland Theatre and a concert by the Disneyland Band.
Seven Grad Nite celebrations were attended by more than 114,000 seniors and their dates, representing a total of 692 schools.
Disneyland's Community Service Awards program honored charitable organizations in Orange County for the 19th year by awarding $60,000 to 43 local organizations. The Outstanding Award went to the Children's Hospital of Orange County.
The year featured a variety of top-name musical entertainers and a series of special events including Country Music Spectacular, Valentine's Party, Angels-Disneyland Fun Day, Viva Mexico, Spring Fling, Kids Day, Senior Citizens Days, Disneyland and All That Jazz, Night of Joy, Star-Spangled Holidays, Pooh for President Rally, Mouseketeer Reunion and the New Year's Eve Celebration.
Thanksgiving holidays were highlighted by live performances by entertainer Pearl Bailey aboard a special floating stage on the Rivers of America.
