It’s Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort and one of the things that means is that the bakers, candy makers, and chefs have full reign to come up with some fun treats for the season.

Recently, I ran into my friend and former podcasting buddy, Louella Laureola, and we decided that we would sacrifice our waistlines in order to try out some Halloween treats. Due to its large menu of new seasonal items, we landed on Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland Park.

We first attempted to use Mobile Order, but the wait time would’ve been around 90 minutes, so we decided to head straight to the restaurant to see how the line was. This ended up being the best choice, because there was a reasonable line and we were able to see the treats in person before we placed our order.

Since we couldn’t convince Louella’s son to try any treats, we narrowed our selection down to 4 of the items that were new this year. There are several more to try and we would love to hear your thoughts on those.

The Caramel Apple Cheesecake [$7.29] featured caramel cheesecake, caramelized apple filling, green white chocolate mousse, chocolate flakes and a chocolate bat decoration.

I enjoy a good cheesecake, though I am not a cheesecake snob and sometimes enjoy the no-bake versions better. This was definitely a “real” cheesecake, but with the caramel flavoring added, it ended up being very sweet. Louella loves caramel and enjoyed the cheesecake. We did have trouble finding the small bit of apple filling buried inside the cheesecake, so if you’re looking for a strong apple flavor, you may be disappointed.

The Jack-O’-Lantern Mickey Pumpkin Macaron [$8.29] had a pumpkin macaron shell filled with caramel buttercream and pumpkin cheesecake.

Since Jolly Holiday opened, it has been the place to go for macarons. This one is super cute and, as expected, super sweet. We enjoyed the crunchy and slightly chewy texture of the macaron, but hoped for more of the pumpkin cheesecake flavor. When we finally dug inside for that, it was delicious. There was just not enough of it. If you’re a macaron fan, however, I’m sure you’ll want to check this out.

The Spiced Bundt Cake [$6.79] was topped with a cream cheese frosting, purple glaze, sprinkles, spiced mousse, and a Mickey chocolate decoration.

While this was the best “bargain” of the day, it was our least favorite. The spiced cake itself was very dry and there was nothing that any of the fillings or frostings could do to help it. Of any of the four items we tried, this is the only one that we would say is a definite skip.

The Apple Almond Croissant [$8.29] was a simple apple-stuffed croissant topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar.

This was the simplest dessert, but we found it to be the most successful. There was a bit of a wait at the counter to get it though, because they warm it up for you. The fall flavors are perfect and if you’re a fan of apple pie, you will love this…maybe with a cup of coffee for breakfast.

BONUS REVIEW: Another friend let me try one of her Pumpkin Spice Fritters [$6.99] from the Royal Street Verandah. As with the croissant above, sometimes simple is better. These were delicious and almost didn’t need the cream cheese dipping sauce. I didn’t try the Pumpkin Cold Brew [$7.29], but my friend didn’t enjoy her drink and recommends you skip it.
