Hi, everybody! It’s Kaitlyn here at East Idaho News.

Besides Taylor Swift’s newest album, “Midnights,” coming out last weekend, the second most exciting thing to happen in my life was a Halloween trip to Disneyland!

I have always been a huge fan of the spooky season. Around Sept. 1, I start to crave caramel apples, love the feeling of leaves crunching underneath my boots, and all I want to do is carve a pumpkin.

This year, some family and I decided to kick it up a notch and visit the happiest place on earth during my favorite season on earth — Disneyland in October!

While there, I tried an exorbitant amount of food, both regular and seasonal, and I now feel qualified to efficiently judge the top 5 items that are worth your time spent in line and the money out of your wallet.

Let’s start at the bottom.

5. Ever-Expanding Cinna-Pym Toast – $12.49

This was definitely the most interesting food I tried during the trip. You can get this dish at Pym’s Kitchen in Avengers Campus inside California Adventure. Pym’s Kitchen is an “Ant-Man and The Wasp”-themed restaurant that specializes in oddly shaped food — hence the teeny-tiny fork — massively long piece of french toast, tiny vial of syrup, blue food-dye and teeny tiny sunny-side up egg that you can see in the photo on the right.

This is only available in the morning, so make sure you’re up early and in line at rope drop for this one.

Honestly, it didn’t look super appetizing, being that it was literally blue, but it was actually really, really good. The cinnamon bread tasted like a cross between bread-pudding and french toast, the syrup was really sweet and maple-y, and it was the perfect size for my group of three to share.

I will say nobody ate the tiny egg – mostly because for a while we weren’t sure if it was real, as it was the size of a quarter. After we poked it with a fork a few times, we learned it definitely was real – just really tiny and cute!

Pro-tip – don’t try and eat the whole thing with the tiny fork. You’ll be there all day.

4. Peanut Candy Churro – $6.75

The churro is obviously a Disneyland classic, and full disclosure, we had at least 12 churros between the three of us. You really can’t go wrong with a churro, ESPECIALLY a warm one, rolled in peanut powder, sugar and crushed peanuts, and drizzled with peanut butter sauce. The warmth from the churro itself made the peanut butter sauce all melty and delicious.

I will say, it is a LOT of sugar, so I wouldn’t recommend riding the “Guardians of the Galaxy” ride directly after eating this. Or really after eating anything.

3. Spicy Mac and Cheese Cone – $9.99

The fact that this is served in Cars’ Land, or Radiator Springs, however technical you want to get, is pretty fitting. A world made to look like one of my favorite Pixar movies, combined with three of my favorite things! Cheese, carbs, and hot Cheetos!

The cheese is so creamy and perfectly melted, the pasta is al dente and to my surprise and delight, it was actually pretty spicy. The cone is made of really thin bread, almost like a pretzel, but it had a slightly sweet edge to it, which balanced out the saltiness of everything else.

I love spicy food, but I honestly didn’t expect this to be as hot as it was. I loved every second of it, but I also really regretted not buying a bottle of water at the same time.

2. Mickey Bat Cookie – $5.99

This cookie changed my life. It could be nothing other than divine intervention that this was the first thing I ate in Disneyland because it really set the mood for the entire trip.

The cookie is a citrus shortbread, dipped in dark chocolate with an edible chocolate vampire Mickey face on top, and if I would’ve known these were so hard to find, I would have bought an entire box to take back with me to Idaho.

We did one day in Disneyland and one day in California Adventure, and I truly would’ve bought another ticket to Disneyland if I knew that it meant I could eat another Mickey bat cookie.

It was SO soft, and the chocolate was smooth and not too sweet. Even the Mickey vampire face tasted like a real chocolate bar, and not just a quickly-thrown together decoration like a lot of fancy cookies end up.

I literally can’t describe it as anything other than the perfect cookie. Call me crazy, say it’s the magic of Disney, but all I know for sure is I am still dreaming about this dang cookie.

1. Cookie Butter Churro Sundae – $7.99

Drum roll, please!

The Cookie Butter Churro Sundae should be illegal. It should be a federal offense to sell something this good and only allow people who have purchased a Disneyland ticket to try it.

I feel as if part of my soul detached from my being and stayed inside of the restaurant after trying this. A part of me will forever live inside the cookie butter churro sundae at Disneyland.

An entire cup of smooth and sweet cookie dough ice cream, drizzled with sweet and salty cookie butter sauce, topped with whipped cream and finished with TWO CHURROS STUCK INSIDE OF THE ICE CREAM. UNREAL. I rarely finish an entire meal, let alone that much sugar in one sitting, but this … this right here, I could’ve eaten two. Three. Maybe even four.

It was just so perfect, everything worked together so well, it was so nice to eat in the hot sun, and weirdly it didn’t melt quickly at all, so it lasted while we walked around the park. Again, probably the magic of Disney.

This is a seasonal option, so I’m not sure how long it will be around, but I know for a fact that when they stop serving it, I will feel as if I have lost a lover.

In conclusion…

All in all, you really can’t go wrong with any of the food at Disneyland. It’s all made with 50% magic, 25% sugar, and 25% sweat from standing in long lines all day. By that math, you burn off all of the calories anyway!

I am so blessed and fortunate to be able to try things like this, and I hope you had as much fun reading about it as I had eating all of it. If anyone needs me, I’ll be trying to re-create the Mickey bat cookie!
