Despite the fact Walt Disney often ended his work day with a Scotch mist, Disneyland was, by his design, a dry park. Hoping to create an alternative to sometimes sloppy entertainment options like Coney Island, Disney envisioned a family-friendly place — sans alcohol.
In the decades since his death, however, Disneyland realized it was leaving a lot of revenue on the table by omitting alcoholic beverages from its menus. Beer, wine and cocktails are pervasive at Disney World and Disney California Adventure, but the original Disneyland Park dragged its heels until very recently. In May 2019, the opening of the “Star Wars”-themed land included the park’s first bar: Oga’s Cantina. It was the first time Disneyland guests could imbibe in the park’s history.
The land is now expanding its alcohol offerings with the first quick-service restaurant in Disneyland to offer beer or wine. Reservations opened this week for a special dining package available at Docking Bay 7. The package includes a set menu, plus reserved viewing for the nighttime fireworks show over the land (fireworks are not done nightly, so be sure to check the entertainment calendar first).
Reservations can be made via the Disneyland website or app, and the cost is $89 per person. Food options include fried cheeseburger croquette bites and cream puffs, and beer, hard seltzer and wine are available for guests 21 and over. You can’t take those cans to go, however; Disney stipulates that you can drink your alcoholic beverage only at Docking Bay 7.
Even if you’re not buying the dining package, watching the fireworks in Galaxy’s Edge is a fun alternative to the usual castle show. The fireworks explode right over the land’s dramatic rock formations, and the instantly recognizable “Star Wars” soundtrack makes the display more dramatic than its nostalgic Main Street counterpart.
If you’re looking for more spots for a drink in Disneyland, sit-down restaurants like the Carnation Cafe, Blue Bayou and River Belle Terrace also serve alcohol.
