The famed bayou ambiance and waterside setting of Disneyland’s Blue Bayou restaurant has been temporarily hidden behind construction walls as the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction undergoes a seasonal refurbishment.

The Blue Bayou restaurant in New Orleans Square at the Anaheim theme park will close for refurbishment beginning on April 21, according to Disneyland officials. Until then, patrons will find blue and white construction walls separating the dining area from the dark ride bayou.

Disneyland kept the Blue Bayou fan-favorite experience open during the Pirates of the Caribbean renovation to accommodate as many guests as possible, according to Disney officials.

Pirates of the Caribbean closed on March 14 for a seasonal refurbishment that is scheduled to be complete before “Fantasmic” returns on May 28. During the ride closure, Disneyland is working to improve traffic flow in the New Orleans Square area along the Rivers of America ahead of the return of the nighttime spectacular.

Pirates of the Caribbean is expected to return in early summer. No reopening date has been set for Blue Bayou.

Disneyland bills the cajun-creole restaurant set inside the Pirates of the Caribbean as a watery bayou setting where the attraction’s bateaux boats glide past while diners nosh on jambalaya, gumbo and crème brûlée. The nighttime ambiance of the perpetual twilight features crickets chirping, frogs croaking and fireflies winking along the banks of the restaurant within a ride.

Reservations have been difficult to nab for the Blue Bayou and many of Disneyland’s other table service restaurants that become available 60 days in advance. No reservations are available for lunch or dinner at the Blue Bayou through April 20, according to Mouse Dining.

Blue Bayou began serving alcohol in May 2021 after a year-plus COVID-19 pandemic closure.

Blue Bayou typically closes when Pirates of the Caribbean undergoes refurbishment, but Disneyland decided to keep the restaurant open until after Spring Break, according to Mouse Planet.

“Some diners have said they were notified there would be construction walls in place of the usual view into the attraction’s sleepy bayou scene, while others said they had no idea until they arrived at the restaurant,”

Disneylanders aren’t buoyed by the barricades blocking the bayou view in the New Orleans Square restaurant.
