From WED Disneyland Dictionary 1968
The ultimate in femininity graced by the nearly lost art of reverse painted mirrors which portray colorful scenes of flowers, birds and butterflies, and reflect the shop's unique merchandise. Perfumes are personally blended to satisfy any desire.
From Steve Birnbaum brings you the best of Disneyland 1982:
If prizes were to be given for the most beautiful of Disneyland's shops, this tiny, fragrant corner of New Orleans Square would get the blue ribbon. Doorsteps are lovely marble mosaics, cabinets have doors made of glass, and lighting is from an antique chandelier that Walt Disney himself brought from Louisiana just for this purpose. The floor is parquet, and the woodwork a soothing pale green over- glazed with silver leaf. In addition, there are eight reverse-painted mirrored panels around the shop, shining marvels-believed to be the largest of their type ever created-exemplifying a Chinese art that became popular with Europeans from the 14th century to the beginning of the 19th. Painting the butterflies, bluebirds, garlands, and bouquets meant executing the detail work first, then the background-just the opposite of the technique used when putting oils on canvas-then silvering the entire piece. The effect is unabashedly pretty, perfect for displaying the shop's wares-potpourri, scented soaps, atomizers, and perfumes and toilet waters in some 33 different brands, some 54 different fragrances-from Chanel, Jean d'Albret, le Ga- lion, Myrurgia, Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Yves Saint Laurent, Patou, Balenciaga, Rochas, Carven, Nina Ricci, Worth, Lanvin, Dior, and others. Per- fumes also can be blended to order using a half dozen different basic oils, small paddle-shaped blotters, graduated cylinders, and long glass funnels. The formula you choose is recorded with thousands of others in a large black notebook, and refills can be ordered by mail. On your way out, take a look at the bronze plaque adorning the wall above the drinking fountain outside. It was discovered by members of the prop department while on a buying trip to New Orleans. The fountain, not part of the original plan for New Orleans Square, was added just to show it off to best advantage.
