Story Line:
Peter Pan, a fabulous boy summoned rather than invented by Wendy, the adolescent daughter of the Darlings of London, actually appears to her and her brothers, John and Michael, on the eve of Wendy's "last day in the nursery" and teaches the children to fly. Within the hour, they are on their way across the rooftops to a far place of enchantment, Never Land.
Here their strange and exciting adventures begin when Capitan Hook, leader of a band of scurvy pirates, tries to blast Pan and his fellow voyagers out of the sky. This forces them into an emergency landing. Hook and his bosun, Smee, then plot the capture of their mortal enemy, Pan.
In the meantime, Wendy is escorted to the wonders and delights of Never Land by Peter who is familiar with all its inhabitants, including a glamorous bevy of mermaids. These are Wendy's favorites, but they, like Peter's tiny pixie friend Tinker Bell, are jealous of Pan's attentions to the strange girl from overseas.
John and Michael, and Wendy, are then captured by a band of Indians whose princess, Tiger Lily, has been kidnapped by Hook and his first mate Smee. The Lost Boys, a tatterdemalion band of motherless waifs, also are rounded up by the Indians. Pan saves the prisoners from the stake and by freeing Tiger Lily earns the Chief of the Redmen's gratitude.
In order to discover Pan's secret headquarters, Hook traps Wendy and Pan's pixie friend, Tinker Bell. Both unwittingly give Hook clues to Peter's whereabouts, but Pan continues to outwit the vile buccaneer with the steel hook for a hand.
Hook is in turn pursued by a hungry Crocodile who is responsible for his missing hand.
As a last attempt to destroy Peter, Hook plants a time bomb in his underground home, the whereabouts of which Tinker Bell has thoughtlessly betrayed. In remorse, Tink seizes the bomb just as it explodes. She almost dies, but Pan revives her by telling the jealous little sprite that she means more to him than anyone else in the world. Tink then reveals that Wendy and her brothers have been taken captive by Hook and are about to walk the plank.
Pan is able to rescue the prisoners only after a terrific battle with Hook and the rest of the pirates. During the fight Hook falls into the sea and almost into the jaws of the ravening Crocodile, but through sheer terror manages once more to out swim the hungry monster.
Peter and his staunch comrades then take charge of the pirate ship. Wendy, however, is now ready to go back home, and be grown-up. So Peter hoists the sails and steers a course back to the Darling residence. When Father and Mother Darling return from an evening out, they find Wendy kneeling by the window, and John and Michael snug in bed. Wendy says she's watching a ship in the sky which is taking Peter and the Lost Boys back to Never Land. And that she's glad she's home again -- willing to grow up.
Puzzled at first, the father peers out into the night sky, "You know," he says, "I have the strangest feeling I've seen that ship before... when I was very young," and Mother Darling says she's very glad to hear him say it. The ship finally appears as a receding shadow amidst the bright stars.
