Park attendees could borrow one of Huck Finn’s rods and reels and a can of worms and fish for catfish and river perch at the Cove. The idea was that you would bring your catch over to the nearby Aunt Jemima Pancake House to have it stored on ice until you left for the day.
Borrow one of Huckleberry Finn's favorite poles and a can of worms fish for catfish and river perch at Catfish Cove. The guests fished with a bamboo pole and a worm. The water was stocked with 15,000 catfish, perch and bluegill in a netted area. The net was pretty much hidden around the pier. Visitors paid for the use of a pole and could have their catch cleaned and stored in a refrigerator for them at the main gate for pick up later in the day. After many fish carcasses were found in bushes and lockers Catfish Cove was closed.
Although you could still fish off the pier for a time after the abandoned catfish situation, but you had to release your catch back into the water.
