Indian Trading Post Secrets:
When the small log cabin store first opened in 1956, it was the Indian Trading Post, selling handmade jewelry and goods to complement the authentic Native American performances nearby.
When the entire land was gutted and turned into Bear Country in 1972, the store remained. With the addition of Splash Mountain in 1989, the store became the Briar Patch.

From Steve Birnbaum brings you the best of Disneyland 1982:
Modeled after trading posts used by native Americans of the Pacific Northwest, this small emporium specializes in Indian handicrafts. There are inexpensive souvenir items, mostly from the Cherokees-marble bags for kids, headdresses, Indian princess dolls, small tom-toms, and the like. And then there are dozens of really beautiful, sometimes quite costly, items: Navajo jewelry with large chunks of turquoise; all- silver Hopi pieces, traditionally crafted without any stones; interesting Zuni rings and pins inlaid with red and white stones as well as turquoise; sand paintings; tomahawks-sticks with rocks bound to the top by leather thongs; totems; belts; baskets and blankets; kachina dolls from the Southwest; feather earrings; tom-toms covered with real animal skin; and more. Some of the items sell for several hundred dollars each, while others are quite in- expensive: note the photographs of squaws and chiefs from the past reproduced as postcards, for instance. There's a really clever stamp machine camouflaged in an oak case near the entrance. The grass on the roof is real. Seeded with a variety known as creeping red fescue, it is kept trim with a hand mower.
