"Critter Country" was originally called the "Indian Village." Until 1971, that section of Frontierland contained Native American shows and attractions. The Briar Patch store is the only original structure that remains in Critter Country. When the small log cabin store first opened in 1956, it was the Indian Trading Post, selling handmade jewelry and goods to complement the authentic Native American performances nearby.
When the entire land was gutted and turned into Bear Country in 1972, the store remained. With the addition of Splash Mountain in 1989, the store became the Briar Patch.
