Disneyland will reopen one of its most beloved rides a month earlier than expected. After closing in January for renovations, the Haunted Mansion returns on Monday.
The July 29 reopening is nearly a full month sooner than the expected Aug. 23 timeline, which sees the opening day of Halloween season at the park.
The project that shut down Haunted Mansion is still ongoing. Crews are expanding and updating the ride’s outdoor queue with a new theme and adding a retail shop in the style of Madame Leota’s carriage house near the exit. While construction is still underway, parkgoers can access the Haunted Mansion using a virtual queue until the physical queue is finished later this year.
During Halloween Time and holiday seasons at the Disneyland Resort, the Haunted Mansion becomes Haunted Mansion Holiday, themed to “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
The marquee decoration of the ride is a “frightful fête’s ballroom scene,” which features a new, moving gingerbread house every year, according to a news release.
Within the park, the area around Haunted Mansion Critter Country and New Orleans Square is also under a large renovation. The Hungry Bear Restaurant, in the heart of Critter Country, is being rethemed with a new menu and could become a historic landmark. Nearby Splash Mountain (soon to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure) closed in May 2023 and is expected to reopen sometime this fall.
Disney execs proposed a $1.9 billion park expansion project called DisneylandForward, and it was approved by the Anaheim City Council in May.
As the resort undergoes further development upending and adapting elements that made it the ''happiest place on earth'' for children and adults the timely reopening of the Haunted Mansion suggests that Disneyland is promptly nailing down its big project planning.
