An Indiana Jones restaurant and bar at Walt Disney World themed as a pilot hangout in an airplane hangar is one example of the high-end “eatertainment” concepts that Disneyland could build under a reimagined long-term vision for the Anaheim theme park resort district.
Disneyland teased Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World as one of the potential restaurant concepts that could be part of a proposed expansion plan during a DisneylandForward webinar.
The DisneylandForward proposal seeks to update a 1990s Anaheim city plan to allow for a mix of theme park, hotel, retail, dining and entertainment on the eastern and western edges of the Disneyland resort.
Disneyland has dangled six possible theme park projects to provide a “flavor” of what future expansion could look like over the next couple decades under the DisneylandForward proposal.
The DisneylandForward plan includes concept art of the Tangled, Frozen and Peter Pan themed lands coming to Tokyo Disneyland in Japan, the planned Zootopia themed land and the already-open Tron roller coaster at Shanghai Disneyland in China and Toy Story Lands at Disney parks in Florida, France and China.
Disney has not announced any new attractions, lands or restaurants as part of DisneylandForward. Concept art included in DisneylandForward presentations are for illustrative purposes only and not intended to represent any specific projects in the works.
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar was floated as a possible project at the proposed Disney Entertainment Destination expansion during the DisneylandForward webinar.
The Disney Entertainment Destination expansion would bring together theme park experiences, hotels, retail, dining and entertainment on the Toy Story parking lot next to the Anaheim Convention Center.
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar opened in 2015 at Disney World’s Disney Springs, Florida’s version of the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall.
The Walt Disney Imagineering-designed restaurant and bar is themed as an airplane hangar belonging to Jock Lindsey, Indiana Jones’s pilot in “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Imagineering has filled the Hangar Bar with airplane memorabilia related to the Indiana Jones movie franchise as well as sly references to Star Wars, Iron Man, Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bringing Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar to the Disneyland resort could dovetail nicely with Disney’s ambitious plan to thematically tie together many of its most popular stories under one umbrella.
From a storytelling standpoint, the Hangar Bar serves as a watering hole for members of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers traveling the world.
Imagineers created the Society of Explorers and Adventurers as a backstory for several attractions at Tokyo DisneySea, according to Theme Park Insider. Since then, SEA storylines have been incorporated into the Mystic Manor attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland, the Skipper Canteen at Florida’s Magic Kingdom, the Tropical Hideaway eatery at Disneyland and Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain rides at Disney parks around the world.
A new Magic Kingdom Universe modeled after the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the interconnected “Star Wars” stories on Disney+ will stitch together characters from Disney theme parks and classic animated films with an expanding series of shows on the streaming service.
The first Magic Kingdom Universe project in the works for Disney+ will be based on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers — an alternate reality where Disney characters exist in Disney theme park lands.
