Disneyland guests searching for a bite to eat in Critter Country will soon be able to partake in a more robust menu inspired by relics that have been missing from the park for decades.
The Hungry Bear restaurant, nestled near the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride and the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is undergoing a transformation. It will soon be known as the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, offering a barbecue menu and featuring music from the iconic Country Bears. This musical element, a nod to an attraction that graced the park from 1972 to 2001, is sure to resonate with longtime Disneyland fans.
“After touring from coast to coast performing their tunes, Henry, Wendell, Big Al, and the rest of the gang have put together some of the favorite regional barbecue dishes they discovered along the way, just for you,” according to the park.
Chef John State, culinary director for food and beverage at the Disneyland Resort, was heavily involved in creating the new menu. He said in a panel at the D23 Disney fan convention that the menu would include “traditional favorites.''
Some of the mouthwatering dishes include a barbecue platter plate served with white bread and pickles, a plant-based corn rib plate and even a banana pudding. It will also include several new barbecue meat sandwiches and burgers and unique flavors of lemonade.
Although the restaurant will be inspired by the Country Bears, Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree will not be a character dining location, a Disneyland spokesperson told SFGATE in a statement.
The opening date of the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree is unknown, but it is a part of the greater revamp of Critter Country, where Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open on Nov. 15, permanently replacing Splash Mountain as the land’s major attraction.
