It is now easier to get from Frontierland to Fantasyland at Disneyland, or vice-versa.

The theme park on Thursday, June 8, reopened its Big Thunder Trail that connects the two lands to the public, after being closed since early 2016. The trail was shut down so it could be revised, with new rock work, and themed decorations related to Disneyland's construction of the "Star Wars" land expansion.

Because of "Star Wars," expected to open in 2019, the park needed to also reroute the Rivers of America, and the tracks for the Disneyland Railroad.

Closure of the trail has caused some crowd flow problems for the park during peak periods, such as the two weeks following Christmas Day. For a few days during those two weeks, the park opened the then-unpaved trail to alleviate crowding and improve pedestrian traffic between Frontierland and Fantasyland.

The trail is expected to remain open until the park has to prepare the connections between the trail and the new land in 2019.

It will also be the primary access to the new land from both Frontierland and Fantasyland, though it will also be accessed via a trail from Critter Country.

The new route for the Disneyland Railroad will take it above some rock work along the trail.

Also, Disney employees began running the Mark Twain Riverboat on the Rivers of America, testing the new, shorter route around Tom Sawyer Island. The boat, along with the Sailing Ship Columbia are used during the day as a ride attraction, and in the nighttime show on the river called "Fantasmic!"

That show is expected to return in a new version later in 2017.
