The resort announced this morning that the event formerly known as Mickey's Halloween Party is getting a new home and a new name. Oogie Boogie Bash - A Disney Halloween Party will run for 20 nights from September 17 through Halloween night at Disney California Adventure.

The reason? Disney did not officially say, but if you guessed that the resort wanted to take some pressure off Disneyland during the opening year for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, you'd probably not be wrong. Disneyland has run its Halloween party over California Adventure before, so the switch is not unprecedented.

But Disney's throwing in a name change and a lot of new programming to freshen this hard-ticket, after-hours event, as well. Disney will be bringing the Frightfully Fun Parade parade across the esplanade, along with the wildly popular treat trails (no tricks necessary!) Beyond that, however, Disney is giving the event a villains spin, with a villains invasion of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and a special Halloween-themed World of Color production, to be called "Villainous!"

Oogie Boogie weaves a Halloween tale about a young girl (and all-new character) named Shelley Marie. In "Villainous!," Shelley has a decision to make about her Halloween costume for this year, and finds herself wondering if she could really be as strong and unique as some of her favorite Disney characters. This twisted tale carries Shelley on an unforgettable journey, exploring the villainous side of Disney characters through fountains, lights, lasers, projections and special effects.

Elsewhere in the park, Hollywood Land gets a Descendants-themed dance party, DescenDance, on the backlot, as well as a new Mickey's Trick and Treat show in the Disney Theater.

"This new, interactive stage production invites guests of all ages to join Mickey Mouse and his pals as they throw a one-of-a-kind Halloween party that include dancing, not-so-frightening scary-tales, and candy," Disney's press release said.

Oogie Boogie Bash will run on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings from September 17 through October 31. Mix-in hours begin four hours before park close (which has been at 7pm on party nights in the past), then the event will last for five hours after that. (Disneyland has not yet released park hours for June, much less gotten to September and October.) Halloween Time, with its decorations and attraction overlays for all park visitors, starts at the resort on September 6 this year.

Prices for the Halloween party vary by date and will range from $110 to $145 per person per night. Discounted tickets will be available to Disneyland Resort annual passholders for the first two Tuesdays and Thursdays of the event. Those will cost $100 each - a $10 discount. Tickets will go on sale to annual passholders and DVC members on April 23, with sales opening to the rest of the public one week later, on April 30.

In the meantime, for regular admission to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, as well as vacation and ticket packages.
