Disney revealed a new character who will play a key role in the Rise of the Resistance attraction and showed off some impressive new special effects that will be featured in the state-of-the-art dark ride coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Resistance spy Vi Moradi will play a central role in the new Rise of the Resistance dark ride coming to Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in January. The rebel spy gives instructions to riders during a trailer for the new attraction shown at the D23 Expo during the Disney theme park panel at the Anaheim Convention Center.

“Thank you for joining the cause,” the holographic Vi says in the trailer. “And may the Force be with us.”

The ground-breaking new attraction will combine four ride experiences into one when it finally debuts in January in the Black Spire Outpost village on the Star Wars planet of Batuu, the setting for the new themed land at Disneyland.

Vi Moradi can be found on Batuu wandering around the rebel area just outside the Black Spire village secretly collecting intelligence on the First Order and enlisting prospective recruits for the rebel cause.

Vi interacts with visitors throughout the day, sharing tricks of her clandestine trade and spreading news of the rising strength of the Resistance forces.

In “Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire,” a new Star Wars novel by Delilah S. Dawson, Vi works with her acerbic droid and a traitorous First Order trooper to recruit a colorful band of outcasts and misfits determined to spark a rebellion on Batuu.

The strong-willed, hot-tempered and quick-witted spy traveled to Batuu to scout the planet for its viability as a potential Resistance recruiting station, according to the backstory developed for Galaxy’s Edge.

The Rise of the Resistance trailer shown at the D23 Expo also highlighted some impressive new special effects that will be featured in the new E-ticket attraction.

Blaster-wielding stormtroopers arrayed on an upper deck of the dark ride will fire laser blasts at the ride vehicles below, according to the new trailer. The red lasers will appear to trail across the room and explode near riders with an explosive blast of smoke.

In another scene from the trailer, a red lightsaber appears to cut through the ceiling above the ride vehicles. Red sparks arc from the ceiling as the Jedi weapon slices through the metal panel.
