Disneyland plans to bring down the wildly popular new Rise of the Resistance attraction for routine overnight maintenance during an after-hours Star Wars Nite event while the Star Wars Celebration fan conference is taking place at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The Disneyland website notes that the new 20-minute-long trackless dark ride will be unavailable during the $109 separate-admission Star Wars Nite event on Aug. 27.
“Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will not be available during this event due to standard required maintenance time,” according to the Star Wars Nite web page.
The after-hours Star Wars Nite event falls on the evening of the opening day of the Star Wars Celebration fan convention on Aug. 27-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
“This is understandably frustrating for prospective attendees,” wrote Theme Park Tourist, a theme park fan site. “This event will take place over six months from now, which many had hoped would be enough time for Disney to work out the kinks with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.”
The after-hours, separate-admission Star Wars Nite event includes themed entertainment, food, drinks and merchandise as well as photo opportunities with a “cavalcade of Star Wars luminaries” and a Star Wars-themed fireworks spectacular.
Disneyland officials said the overnight maintenance on Rise of the Resistance would not impact daily operation of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Tours will be available during Star Wars Nite, Disneyland officials said.
Technically advanced new rides like Rise of the Resistance often undergo regular overnight maintenance to ensure optimal performance during the operating day.
Rise of the Resistance has been a big hit since the attraction debuted Jan. 17 in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disneyland visitors have been snapping up “boarding group” spots in a digital virtual queue for Rise of the Resistance as soon as the Anaheim theme park opens each morning. The state-of-the-art new ride broke down once or twice a day for an hour or more during the opening weeks of the attraction.
