Disney Research has recently released footage of a new robot that has human-like characteristics.
The robot has subtle head movements and some blinking patterns that look similar to how a human interacts.
The robot has a sensor inside of its chest that notifies it when to move and how to move its eyes for contact with other humans, too, Gizmodo reports.
The robot uses its sensors to basically have lifelike interactions with you. This is the latest piece of technology for Disney and its animatronic characters, so it wouldn’t be too far off to see this at Disneyland in the future.
The Disney Research team unveiled its findings in a new paper, which explains why the interactions are fundamental for a better experience with Disney.
“Given the importance of gaze in social interactions as well as its ability to communicate states and shape perceptions, it is apparent that gaze can function as a significant tool for an interactive robot character. Thus, the aim of this work is to develop a system to emulate human-like mutual gaze.”
