Disneyland is already making plans for the Christmas season with giant ornaments, faux snow and holiday music even before Labor Day Weekend brings an unofficial end to summer and we put away our bathing suits, sunscreen and beach chairs for another year.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will kick off the Christmas holiday season on Nov. 12 with a two-month celebration that will stretch until Jan. 9.

Disneyland remained shuttered during the 2020 Christmas season due to an extended coronavirus closure while DCA’s Buena Vista Street returned for holiday shopping and dining in November as an extension of the Downtown Disney outdoor shopping mall.

The 2021 winter festivities will see the return of “A Christmas Fantasy” parade and “Believe in Holiday Magic” fireworks show at Disneyland and the Festival of Holidays food festival and Viva Navidad street party at Disney California Adventure.

It’s a Small World will once again get a holiday overlay with the Haunted Mansion keeping its “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme into the new year. At DCA, Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl and Mater’s Jingle Jamboree take over the Cars Land attractions.

The “Believe” fireworks show will play out in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle with a sudsy faux snow finale and projection mapping on Main Street U.S.A. building facades.

The Viva Navidad street party in DCA’s Paradise Gardens will feature mariachis, folklorico and samba dancers, giant mojiganga puppets and Mickey and Minnie in fiesta outfits.

Eight food booths at DCA’s Festival of Holidays will serve dishes celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali and Three Kings Day.

Visitors looking for seasonal selfies will find Disney characters dressed in holiday costumes at both parks with Disneyland offering a “kiss goodnight” from pajamaed characters waving goodbye each evening from the Disneyland Railroad train station.

Santa Claus will be on hand at DCA’s Redwood Creek Challenge Trail to review Christmas wish lists with kids and pose for holiday family photos.

The new Mirabel Madrigal character from the upcoming animated film “Encanto” will make her theme park debut later in the holiday season — possibly as Disney’s first bespectacled princess.

Seasonal decor will fill both parks with a 60-foot-tall Christmas tree in Disneyland’s Town Square and automotive ornamentation in DCA’s Cars Land.

Cafes will serve festive treats and shops will sell seasonal merchandise.
