Jessica Rabbit — the famous red-headed character from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” — will be getting a new role at Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin ride, according to reports.

In the ride — which opened in 1994 in Mickey’s Toontown — Rabbit had been spotted in the ride’s first scene, sitting in the trunk of a car tied up. However, recent social media posts show the scene has been removed. That’s because Walt Disney Imagineering is changing Jessica Rabbit’s role on the ride, according to Orange County Register.

Now, the ride will go under a reboot to make Rabbit “more relevant,” putting her in the lead role of the ride. She will no longer be “a damsel in distress but now a trench-coat-wearing private investigator,” per Yahoo Entertainment.

In fact, social media members posted a new sign that appears outside the ride’s queue, which explains Rabbit’s new role on the ride.

“Citing the recent return of the Toon Patrol Weasels as the main driver behind the recent sharp rise in crime statistics throughout Mickey’s Toontown, Jessica Rabbit has determined it is past time for her to throw her fedora into the ring by starting her own private investigations service,” the poster reads. “While taking inspiration from longtime friend and legendary Toon Detective Eddie Valiant, Jessica shows that she certainly means business.” Disney has been changing some of its rides in recent weeks to fit modern cultural standards. For example, Splash Mountain has been rethemed as “The Princess and the Frog” rather than “Song of the South,” a film with racist connotations, as I wrote for the Deseret News.

And Disney said it would change “Jungle Cruise” to address “negative depictions” of cultures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Indeed, Disney has upgraded the ride to have “new adventures, an expanded storyline and more humor as skippers take guests on a tongue-in-cheek journey along some of the most remote rivers around the world,” Disney said in an email to the Deseret News.
