From the 1973 Inhouse Food Showmanship Disney Style: On Center Street, guests may enjoy an ice cream sundae at the soda fountain of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, or be seated on the patio overlooking the Flower Market. Salads, sandwiches, beverages, sodas and fancy sundaes were sold.
From Steve Birnbaum brings you the best of Disneyland 1982:
This bright red-and-white establishment is at its best in springtime when the planters that surround its outdoor garden are ablaze with scarlet tulips. But it's an exceptionally pleasant place at any other time of year, too, and if you're in the mood for a California-style sandwich or salad, it's well worth a detour. At breakfast, Danish pastry, cereal, or eggs with bacon, sausage, ham, or steak and fried potatoes are the offerings. For lunch and dinner, there are steamed vegetables, almond-topped chicken salads, and sandwiches filled with avocado, American cheese, and alfalfa sprouts; or chicken salad and sprouts; or avocado and turkey. The "From the Crossroads of America" sandwich, made with pita bread stuffed with a choice of ground beef or chick- en, diced avocado, and onion, is quite tasty. The only main selection on the menu that's not a salad or a sandwich is the steak Monticello, a bacon- topped ground steak drizzled with cheddar cheese. Since this is, after all, first and foremost an ice. cream parlor, you can select from a variety of fancy sundaes made with Carnation ice cream and other ingredients listed on the menu. Don't overlook the "Golden West Freeze," which resembles a milk shake and is made with orange sherbet (an excellent variation much favored by Disneylanders in the know is made with half sherbet, half vanilla ice cream). Children's specialties are available. Note that fantasia ice cream-made with burgundy-cherry, pistachio, and banana-was developed especially for Disneyland by Carnation. On the hottest days, you may want to eat indoors, the better to admire the long polished wood fountain and the frosted crystal light fixtures. When you crave the sun, a seat on the terrace warrants the wait. Tables nearest Main Street are the most pleasant, not only because of the overall view of the passing scene, but also for the bonus of added distance from the Candle Shop, which exudes an overly sweet smell that detracts from an otherwise pleasant experience.
