Forget FastPass. You know what guests at Disneyland's new Star Wars land are really going to appreciate?

The bathroom pass.

That's right: An elegant plastic card will transport you from the middle of an hours-long line inside Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to what is truly the Happiest Place on Earth when you really have to go.

And when you're finished with business, that same pass magically reunites you with your party without the usual nasty looks as you pardon and excuse yourself through the line that probably only got longer during the time you stepped away.

Consider it a hall pass for the theme-park crowd.

You'll be able to leave, then rejoin the line

The pass will be available for those in line for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, the only attraction open for business when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge opens May 31. (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, a more ambitious attraction, will open at a later date.)

Officials said the pass will be based on the one now available at Avatar Flight of Passage, an attraction at Walt Disney World in Florida that routinely has waits of two or three hours. That can be daunting for any well-hydrated person, especially one who just downed a Night Blossom, a Na'vi special. (Imagine drinking liquid Skittles.)

There you are, an hour and several switchbacks in. If you step out of line, how are you going to make your way back without drawing attention as an apparent line-cutter?

That's where the official Queue Re-Entry pass comes in.

How the Queue Re-Entry pass works

Those who feel the call of nature while waiting for Flight of Passage must leave at least one member of their party in line to hold the place, then seek a cast member and explain the situation.

The bathroom-bound guest is given a pass roughly the size of a hotel's "Do not disturb" door hanger that's attached to a lanyard. On it are the name of the attraction, the words "Queue Re-Entry" and, prominently, the silhouette of a running person. It may not say "Bathroom Pass," but everyone will know why it's needed.

Guests may pocket the pass or wear it proudly as they go about their business.

Upon return, guests flash the pass at the cast member at the FastPass entrance. They join that shorter, faster-moving line until they reach the point where it merges with the standby line.

There they will wait in the Bathroom Pass Corral. (OK, it's just a small waiting area, but everyone will know how people landed there.) When the rest of the party arrives, the now-relieved member rejoins them to complete the journey.

But what if friends and family are already past that point by the time you return? They're out of two things: luck and their ride. At least their bladders are happy.
