Disneyland fans in Southern California anxious for the Anaheim theme park to reopen with thin crowds and short lines following an extended coronavirus closure could find one other surprise awaiting them: Cheap tickets.

Walt Disney World has begun offering discount tickets as low as $49 per day for Florida residents who buy multi-day Magic Flex packages.

Disney’s Anaheim theme parks remain closed until further notice. Walt Disney World’s four theme parks reopened in mid-July with strict capacity constraints.

Will Disneyland follow Disney World’s lead and offer deep discounts for Southern California residents once the Happiest Place on Earth reopens?

Disneyland officials have nothing new to announce regarding Southern California resident special ticket offers at this time.

Disneyland was in the middle of its annual Southern California resident discount ticket push when the Anaheim parks closed in mid-March amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The deal offered SoCal locals three-day single-park tickets for as little as $67 per day. That’s a pretty good deal for typically pricey Disneyland tickets that can reach $199 for a peak-priced parkhopper.

Disneyland has extended the expiration date on previously purchased SoCal resident tickets through Dec. 16, 2021.

Wall Street analysts have been watching closely to see if Disney’s U.S. parks would have to turn to discounting to attract visitors wary of heading to theme parks in the middle of a global pandemic. The answer is yes — at least in Florida.

It took less than two weeks for Disney World to turn on the “sale” sign at its virtual ticket booths.

Florida residents can get Magic Flex tickets for two days ($130), three days ($174) or four days ($195). The tickets are good through Dec. 18 and can’t be used on consecutive days. Disney World requires advance online reservations to help maintain COVID-19 attendance capacity limits at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Disney World annual passholders quickly scooped up reservations to the reopened parks when they became available. The Magic Flex ticket discounts suggest other locals may need a little extra incentive to head out to Disney World as Florida remains the COVID-19 epicenter of the United States.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure rarely offer discount tickets in the summer — but this isn’t any ordinary summer. Other Southern California theme parks rely on year-round discounting to attract visitors. Knott’s Berry Farm parent Cedar Fair has already begun offering deep discounts at Missouri’s Worlds of Fun for as little as $30 per day.
